Tip 1: Re-adjust Your Antenna

Distance and direction of your home from the TV station transmitters are the two important parameters that determine the reception of a TV antenna. The height of the tower and the transmitter’s power also matter.

If you reside nearer to the broadcast tower, and the signal path is relatively uninterrupted, your signal reception will be robust and stable. And if you move farther away, getting solid signal strength gets trickier. This is why carefully selecting and installing an antenna is essential.

Tip 2: Install an Antenna Amplifier

TV signals from the antenna generally become weaker as it travels through the coax cable to the TV or network tuner. If you are splitting the signals into one or more locations or the cable runs are too far, then your TV signal may become too weak and you may need to install a preamplifier.

Preamplifiers are installed on the antenna mast as close to the antenna as possible. They amplify the signal before line loss occurs. For best results, keep the coax cable length short from the antenna to the preamplifier.

Tip 3: Use Two Antennas

Maybe your antenna is working fine, but it is not able to receive the signal from different towers. This case will require you to install a second bidirectional antenna. You will receive signals from several transmission towers and your TV will choose the best one for each station. Just make sure not to stack antennas and build them too close to each other. Maintain at least 1-2 meters between each antenna.

Tip 4: Install High Quality Coax Cable

This cannot be understated enough. Getting yourself a roll of high quality cable with good shielding and low signal loss is paramount, especially if you have to run the cables a fair distance to your tuner.

The longer the cable runs between the tuner and the antenna, the greater will be the signal loss. Keep the cable short for best results.

Tip 5: Reset Your Digital Tuner

This will help you to get better TV reception. A digital tuner will convert the incoming signal into a digital format that your TV will recognize. But broadcasters might change the metadata from time to time that will interfere with the tuner’s ability to understand the signal. And your digital tuner will use the older data without getting the right channel information. You can fix this by:

• Disconnecting the coax cable from the TV
• Reconnecting all connections
• Doing one or more channel scan
• Turning off and unplugging your TV and converter box

If resetting the digital tuner did not help you, then take a closer look at your antenna. If the antenna does not get a clear line of sight to the transmission tower then you might face a signal loss.
